The rescue operation of the fishing flag is pending.
As you have probably noticed Märket Island is not on any Google maps. So
there is still at least one place in the whole world which is outside
Google maps. You cannot see it even on satellite maps. For some
mysterious reason it is wiped off. But no problem we made our own map:



As a daily training we walked around the island following the shore line
from safety distance. The wet cliff is extremely slippery. The total
distance was 1.6 kilometers and it took 28 minutes. We have already
found the dignified walking speed which is suitable for lighthouse
keepers, almost like civil servants.
The cliff is quite flat and it is easy to walk, but you must look
carefully where you step. At this time of the year there are basically
four colors near the shore line. Dark gray means dry cliff which is not
slippery. It is quite safe area, friction is high. Next is white area.
It is not yet snow or frozen water, but salt from dried sea water. It is
also safe area, but gives you a warning. Next area is pale green. It is
cliff covered with dry seaweed (or something..). It is normally wise to
avoid this area. When it is dry it is ok, but if it is wet or raining,
it is slippery.



Dark green is the most dangerous. It doesn`t look what shoes you have
or if you are good skater or something, but you fall. You break some
bones. Most probably you end up swimming at sea. If you are hard headed
enough and want to test that dark green area yourself, please don?t.
Temperature of sea water is now about +8 degrees centigrade which means
you will lose consciousness in 30 minute and you are dead in one hour.
We have now 5 days left at Märket Island. Weather forecast looks good.
Wind is only about 6 meters per second from SW, when the next team will
come here on 10th of November. We have already started packing. The
extra radio antenna was taken down to storage. It?s time to collect all
personal things from different rooms etc. Food inventory will be
completed today and sent to next team for planning shopping of food for
the next two weeks.
Märket Lighthouse will have the 126th birthday on 10th of November.
Because that is the day when we are leaving, we shall celebrate it
already on the birthday eve, next Wednesday. We have had some
specialties reserved for possible visitors from Sweden. You never know
if She is coming.. But unfortunately it looks now bad and we have
decided to use them for our birthday celebration. Menu (3+ courses..) is
almost completed and the bottle is in fridge.
