On an autumn day back in 1885 a new source of light started to guide ships on stormy waters in the middle of the Baltic Sea. Exactly 126 years later a new crew, Johanna and Pekka, arrived to Märket lighthouse to celebrate this remarkable event and keep the lighthouse warm. The old watch, Olli and Harri, welcomed us with fresh coffee and newly baked pastries.
On the way to Märket, Mats showed us hundreds of seals resting on a tiny skerry.
After Sefyr had vanished in the horizon we started to plan the birthday ceremony for the evening. We decorated the old lady by putting candles in the windows. And what a marvelous night it became! Watching the sun setting and a full moon climing to the clear sky to honour the anniversary we had a (small) bottle of champagne.
