Today we will enjoy the last moments of a beautiful sunny day in the boat which is heading to the mainland. The new crew takes over the lighthouse about 7 pm. This story is written before that happens. Lorenz will stay here for one more week and both Pasis are travelling away. After this week we are many memories richer. One of them is how the small seabirds called terns actively catch small fishes. The fishes are attentively living under any cover, for example under the boat, as you can see in the figure, they are small - but there they are.
Here lives plenty of terns. But it is not easy to find their nests. In the
photo you can see why. Their really do not worry where they lay their eggs, a hole on the rock is enough.
Something worth wondering, we think, is the pile of rocks very near south of this island. The storms and ice in the winter carry all possible properties in to the depths of the sea. Why they do not take the pile of rocks into the deepness! Why?
The spring is definately here and also the first indications of the summer can be found. Like a dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), the first one and you most likely have to wait awhile for the next one. In the mainland this flower is a weed, here in Market Reef it is like a beauty.
Even if we are leaving the picture of Märket will stay in our minds. There is the Märket. The figure is reflected on the pool of the island. In frontside you can see a white label indicating a corner of the boarderline of states. The label is broken but the two arrows show the line coming from direction "at 1 pm o'clock" and the other arrow showing the line to continue to "at 4 pm o'clock"-direction. The left side of this demarcation line belongs to Finland and the right side Sweden.
