Today it was time for the change of the crews on Märket. The sun was shining beautifully early in the morning as Mats and Bror-Erik drove the red, always reliable ex-pilot boat to Märket's rocky harbour. The Easter gang was waiting tired but happy for the new guards to come. They had done a huge job putting the Märket's summer season 2011 to its beginning.

The new crew, Pekka, Alpo, Seija and Rauha joined Tuomas, who had already been at Märket from the beginning of the season. After a brief meeting of what had been done and some coffee, the red boat drove away taking the Easter crew to their way home.

Märket looked as amazing as always, the rocks of the south cliffs were covered with sea salt and were shining white. There were some seagulls flying around and Pekka spotted some robins. It was almost as it was summer and Seija decided to put some sun screen on the skin, just in case. The new crew admired Märket's spring look, fashionable as always, and very colourful.
Then it was time to complete the work that the previus lighthouse guards had nearly finished in less than three days - taking in 95 per cent of the some 15 tons of materials that the Subsea V ferry left here.
Seija and Rauha took a mountain of tiles with a wheelbarrow to the old magazine wich was already full of timber and fire wood.

Tuomas started to do some work with the electricity connections. He made quite a miracle by getting the small generator to work after a long break.
At the same time Alpo and Pekka rowed with with the tiny red dinghy to serch for some lost things from the sea that Mats and Bror-Erik saw when they went to repair on of the buoys. They spotted pieces of scaffolding wich were swepped to the sea last summe in a storm. Alpo and Pekka managed to get three valuable parts out of four from the sea, the fourth piece lies at the rocky bottom under some rocks, so someone has to dive to get the rack away from the sea. But the sea is still too cold for diving, so some later shifts will handle that task.
After a lunch Rauha had prepared, fish soup (a rarity meal here in the middle of the sea!) and salad, and a quick brake, it was time to work some more for Märket's summer season.

It's important to get things well started, so the work party 2011 for Märket starts smoothly, everything works fine and the workers have everything they need.
Before dinner (inclunding onions from Åland with some horse and lamb steak - NOTE both left overs from the continent!)

Pekka started hammering away the bad concretes of the bridge, Alpo cut some wood, Seija organised some fire wood, Rauha made and Tuomas put this in the net - so we thouht we earned this great evening meal in the sunset. What a first day on Märket - and a great end for the Easter time!
