After several days of hard wind and storm we had a really calm day for a change. In the morning a whole family of seals was resting on a nearby reef. They looked even more relaxed than us.

During the day we saw heads everywhere popping up from the sea and vanishing again as soon as the camera was pointed to them.

Because there was no wind we took the boat and rowed round the island. More and more curious heads came to have a closer look what was going on. Who are those crazy creatures and what are they doing here…?

Migration of birds has really started. Appearing of peippo (chaffinch, Fringilla coelebs) and västäräkki (white wag tail, Motacilla alba) is a sure sign of spring.

Not to talk about numerous sea birds and birds of prey. Also a small hippiäinen (gold crest, Regulus regulus) landed on Märket for a while.

We continue to heat the stoves of the lighthouse because it is still very cold outside. One of the poles of the security fence was cut in the last storm but Pete made some welding and fixed the pole.

A great day on Märket once again!
